New route to growth

Last year many Turkish companies which were focusing on developing markets recorded significant growth abroad. Aksa Jenaratör’s China operation Aksa Power Generation grew by 91.8 percent, while IC Holding’s Dubai-basedDİA Holding grew by 60 percent and TAV Construction’s Qatar operation by 48.8 percent. The most striking expansion abroad was recorded by Efes Breweries International, which grew by 191 percent. This growth meant that it took the title by some margin of the largest Turkish company abroad. Capital has been the closest monitor of Turkish companies’ foreign performance over the last five years, and this year’s “The 50 Largest Turkish Companies Abroad” survey, which was conducted with the support of BT Türkiye, has again demonstrated the HOW WAS strength of the Turkish business community in the global arena.

HOW WASTHE SURVEY CONDUCTED?
The list of the largest Turkish companies abroad was compiled based on companies which have their headquarters abroad. These companies were ranked according to their turnover in 2011.
Major contracting, infrastructure and construction companies, which secure nearly all of the revenue and activities from abroad, were not including in these rankings as they have their headquarters in Turkey.
Some companies and groups whose turnover meant that they could have been in the list, such as the Zorlu Group, Çelebi Holding, the Kayı Group, Çalık Holding and Yaşar Holding, were not included because they did not provide any data.
